A staircase, partly carved in the cliff leads to underground
batteries.
The rooms down there sheltered two huge guns that were meant to tear the metal plating of the man-of-
wars of that period.

The range of artillery was
important but, in fact, they had
almost to fire in carrying end by the narrow openings drilled in the cliff

The powder magazine is located at the entrance of the gun battery with
its double-walls which helped to
maintain the dryness of the gun powder. The walls are partly
